need plans for wednesday night?
do i have a show for you...and some thoughts on form and medium.
FIRST DRAFT
I. Pop-Up Magazine is a live magazine. The stories aren’t recorded and each experience is unique to the tour. Given the state of the world they are streaming their latest show and I think you would enjoy it. And if you don’t, I will personally write you a note of apology and curate you a night of entertainment. More details here.
Editor’s Note: There have been a few recordings of segments to be used as podcasts and promotional items. For example this 15 minute segment called the The Prayer was replayed as a podcast is a good example of the type of thing you’ll hear.
II. Now let’s talk about form and medium. Everyday I work with truly talented folks and am amazed at the creativity and sincerity that can be applied to the news. But there are still things every once and awhile that floor me and reframe what I think a newspaper can do. The Times published this piece: Notes From Our Homes to Yours and if anything at least click on Taylor Lorenz’s list. Even if you aren’t a horror fan. So much of our interactions with the web are via walled gardens where nothing is out of place and each pixel adheres to a bigger design system. I hope this reminds us of whats this medium can do.
Publisher’s Note: Full disclosure. The Times pays my bills but not for me to post links to their site. Full-er disclosure I used to work with Jaspal, one of the creatives behind this piece.
III. Lastly, the site. Its going yalls. Here’s where you left off. Take it for a spin. Thinking later this week I’ll dedicate some space for some of the thoughts bouncing around in my brain
